Ponds In India

The Mud Pond
These are supposed to be the best for Koi , they have their own filtration systems and are continuously replenished by rains and small streams . Even the mud below acts as a filtration system and covers ammonia into nitrogen by various anaerobic and aerobic bacterial, Plant life and algae in the ponds also help a lot – The clay bottoms of these ponds are efficient in koi growth as they contain many vital nutrients and minerals .
It is so beneficial that people use the slit from these ponds in their artificial ponds to enhance Koi Growth .This clay can also be added to other kinds ponds especially in and Koi in India should benefit from the same .
The Concrete Pond
Costly but the sturdiest kind of ponds that can be used indoors as well as outdoors for a the hobby the main advantage is that it can be built at any level ,height and shape only the laws of physics and your imagination matter .
The main disadvantage would be the higher curing time and the threat of the chemicals in the concrete leaching out to the water, so people end up using sealants ever fiberglass sometimes to avoid this . Cost and difficulty to build is also a deterrent.
The Liner Pond.
The easiest to make , Just dig a hole in the ground re-enforce the sides, lay the lining ,fill up with water , kick start the filter , and populate with Koi .Works for not only Koi in India . Peole in india tend to use the blue Plastic Tarpaulin sheets (There is no tarpaulin any more but the name still sticks) as rubber liner sheets are not commonly available
This method is most widely used for Koi in India and all over the world ,as can be seen by the picture on the left .

There are 3 kind of ponds
Each have their own advantages and disadvantages for example the mud pons are difficult to fabricate ,most people end up using natural ponds while concrete is costly to construct and take a long time to cure and still need some more coating to protect from the chemicals released from the concrete to the water, while liner ponds are quick and sometimes easy DIY they are less durable and end up needing liner replacement after a couple of years , any sharp object can cause a liner tear and thus a leak. Let’s have quick look at the main three.
